Working Discussion on Expediency of Teaching Subject of Chess

On October 11, the RA NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sport moderated by Mkhitar Hayrapetyan held a working discussion on the issue of expedience of compulsory teaching subject of chess at general schools. The NA deputies, the RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Arayik Harutyunyan and specialists of the sphere took part in it.

According to the Minister, the subject shall be taught at schools, as Armenia is considered to be a chess super power in the international sphere. Many countries study the Armenian experience. Arayik Harutyunyan has informed that they have received complaints related to teaching methodology, has also proposed not to give marks for the subject. The problem is at the phase of discussion.

The MP Lilit Stepanyan presented the situation of teaching chess at schools of the marzes. The Chair of the Standing Committee underlined the use of high technologies in chess teaching process, which would promote the rise of teaching efficiency.

The MP Artak Manukyan highlighted the organization of the specialists’ purposeful training process and touched upon the financial problems.

The discussions on the subject would be of continuous character.
